ST. AUSTIN'S YOUTH COMMUNITY

MISSION STATEMENT:

  • Promoting gospel values among the members and the youth in the community. This is achieved through praying together as a community and sharing the word of God. We have Mass every Sunday from 10:00 HRS to 11:30 HRS. This provides the community to gather around the table of God for the breaking of the word and partake in the Body of Christ for Spiritual nourishment.
  • Engaging in charitable activities beneficial to the community through community outreach
  • Help young people identify their potential within available resources and thus acquire self reliance.
  • Provide a conducive environment to the members to promote social welfare through sports, peer counseling and behavior change campaigns.
  • Engage in micro-financed projects to promote self-employment and impart a sense of responsibility.
  • Address issues of national reconciliation, cohesion and healing by breaking up prejudices.
  • Promote and implement behavioral changes in fighting HIV/AIDS, drug abuse and substance abuse among the youth.
  • Collaborating with any other youth group with aims and objectives consistent with ours and beneficial to the youth at large.

*we are also currently working on a program that will have our members form teams of up to 15 members. These teams of likeminded members and who share common talents will contribute to the growth and ministry youth fraternity in our parish in their unique ways. So far we have two groups; one which has interest in sports, and another one which has interest in dancing and singing.

VISION STATEMENT:

Integral Formation for global citizens in the 21st century and beyond;  full empowerment of young people in decision making, discerning and living out their Christian vocation to the full.

PROPOSED PROJECTS / ACTIVITIES:

  1. The youth community in our parish has managed project to purchase a public address system with the support of the Parish community. This sound system will be used during our Mass at the parish hall which runs from 10:00 HRS to 11:15HRS. Actually this is our primary motivation, as we have been having audibility problems due to the size of the hall. We also hope to be leasing out this public address system for various function to our parishioners. This will enable us to raise some income that will enable us to fund some of our programs like retreats, recollection and pilgrimages. The public address system will also be used for parish functions at no cost at all. However we were not able to reach our target amount to complete the whole project. We thus have a second phase coming up and thus we continue to appeal for financial assistance to achieve our goal. The following are the equipment we managed to procure

  1. Proposed pilgrimage to Bagamoyo. This was the first base that the missionaries set up in the mainland Eastern Africa and from they later ventured to evangelize the whole of Eastern Africa. We wish to have our members share in the experience of very young priests and sisters who gave our out their whole lives to the work of evangelization.
  2. Car wash, Cake sale and Jumbo sale, charity walks; these will be fundraising activities to finance our charity fund which aims at supporting the less fortunate in the society.
  3. Retreats, recollections, Counseling, career guidance and mentoring sessions that are aimed at forming our members holistically. They will also be empowered through these sessions to discern their vocations well and thus be responsible and effective witnesses to their baptismal commitments.
  4. We would like as a community to grow in our understanding and love for Mother Mary. She is indeed our Mother in faith and an inspiration. Her openness to the will of God as expressed in the Gospel of Luke demonstrates this. We shall thus pray the Rosary together in our meetings that through her intercession and nurture we may grow in faith.
  5. We plan to have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at least once a month. This will be in line with our mission statement that finds expression in a deeper and a profound conviction in the profound love that Christ Has for us; a love that found ultimate expression on the cross.
  6. We also plan to have a bonding and team building session once a month; preferably the last Sunday of the month. In addition we shall also make time after mass to share a cup of tea or coffee and get to strengthen the bond that we share.
